Science-forward packaging with warmth and precision

How we translated a first-time founder's strong internal vision into packaging that communicates science, warmth, and long-term intent.

THE CHALLENGE

The founder of Frey Skin came with a clear feeling and no easy way to express it. The brand needed to feel science-backed—grounded in real formulation—but also warm, human, and distinct from the sterile clinical packaging that dominates the category.

Her first SKU was an after-sun face cream built around Phenoliva™ Active 10, Vitamin B5, and Aloe Vera. The product was considered. The ingredients were precise. What was missing was a visual language that could carry all of that without tipping into cold or generic.

The market offered two dominant paths: clinical white-on-white with ingredient callouts, or the soft-beige minimalism that had become its own kind of cliché. Frey Skin needed a confident third option—one built to hold space for science, warmth, and long-term brand building from the very first product.

OUR APPROACH

Before any visuals were explored, the work began with strategy. A detailed questionnaire and a series of positioning conversations helped clarify tone, long-term brand ambition, and what the ideal customer needed to feel when they held this product in their hands.

Three ideas anchored everything that followed: restoration and skin resilience, evidence-led formulation, and communication that felt human and precise rather than clinical or overly soft.

Visual System

The packaging was designed to sit confidently between two worlds. A soft off-white base kept everything clear and light. Burnt red arrived as the brand’s defining accent—distinctive without being aggressive. Olive and sun tones added warmth underneath, referencing the Mediterranean origins of the formulation without leaning into cliché. Editorial serif typography gave the front panel authority; a clean functional hierarchy on the side panels kept compliance information readable and considered.

The result was a system that felt composed—neither trend-chasing nor overly restrained. Every panel earned its place.

Production & Detail

Design was only part of the work. Getting from finished artwork to a label on a product required a different kind of support:

– Layout adjustments to meet EU minimum text requirements
– Test prints to verify clean label wrapping across the jar
– Dieline refinements and embossing considerations
– Introduction to a sustainability-aligned manufacturer
– Organised final file handover, ready for direct use with printers

For someone launching their first product, this structure removed a significant amount of friction from an otherwise opaque process.

THE OUTCOME

Frey Skin launched with packaging that reflects where the brand is going, not just where it is now. The visual system was built to hold space for future SKUs, and the brand guidelines give the founder a clear framework for every printer and collaborator who touches the brand going forward.

“When I started building Frey Skin, I had a strong sense of what the brand needed to feel like. Science-forward, but warm. Minimal but not too clinical or ‘beige-y’. Elevated, thoughtful, still accessible.

The strategy questionnaire went deep and pushed me further, asked about long term direction, tone, and where I see Frey Skin evolving over time. I left strategy sessions with more clarity than I expected. Weronika went further than I anticipated on the technical side, which says a lot about the level of care she puts into the details.

The final result are just what I had pictured, but couldn’t bring to life myself. Seeing these colors and identity makes me deeply proud. It feels timeless and strong, like something I can build on for a very long time.”

Since launch, Frey Skin has been featured in Vogue — a meaningful validation of what the right brand foundation can achieve.

What made this project distinctive was the combination of creative precision and production support. The founder didn’t just receive a design — she received the confidence and documentation to carry it forward independently.
